Houses cost a lot of money in some cities and Auckland is very expensive.

Compared with living with her parents, this is better for her in many ways. It's closer to the city, the airport and closer to Joel Little's recording studio. Plus, according to the news article, she's renovating, so I wouldn't be surprised if she installed a small recoding studio in one of the rooms.
