A senior services official in Rhode Island has resigned over a bizarre 'Mrs Doubtfire'-inspired PR stunt involving a middle-aged man disguised as an old lady.
Sue Stenhouse, director of senior services in the City of Cranston, organized a news conference last Tuesday to announce the launch of the Snow Angels program, which encourages local teenagers to helps elderly residents during the cold winter months by shoveling driveways and pathways.
The event was attended by the mayor of Cranston, a group of beaming high school students armed with colorful shovels, and what at first glance appeared to be an elderly woman with a name tag that read 'Cranston Senior Home Resident.'

The ruse involving the pear-wearing, bespectacled cross-dresser ended up costing the senior services dirctor her $55,000-a-year job

It has since emerged that the ruddy-cheeked, curly-haired lady wearing pink lipstick and matching clip-on earrings was, in fact, a male van driver by the name David Roberts.
According to local reports, Stenhouse could not find a female senior citizen to take part in the snow shoveling program roll-out and decided to draft the senior center's van driver to make for a better photo-op.
