lack of knowledge of artists who are important (in founding or shaping) black music are not canonized in the same way white artists are. like, no one would drag you for not knowing the members of NWA for example but god forbid you don't know every member of the beatles.

screaming at someone acting like bringing race into the discussion is unjustified when race has played and still plays a huge role in how music is performed, marketed, commercially received, and criticized.

Y'all want so badly for people to recognize the influence of rock music, but refuse to credit the black people who pioneered it and then was excluded from it.

Oh and to the question, they get defensive because rock music is the most iconic genre with the most remembered artists/bands and if you call yourself a music fan yet don't know the basics of the rock genre then you look stupid.

Welp. Embarrassing
OT: I have no idea. It's beyond irritating - particularly due to the fact that we're on a pop forum and most of the members here have no interest in rock music.

I also write a blog about Active Rock and Alternative music, and I have since added Country music to my blog.

I'll agree with this. My mother grew up listening to artists like Donny Hathaway, Teddy Pendergrass, Chic, etc., and she doesn't know who Black Sabbath are.

Bringing race into every damn discussion is boring. I swear you'd probably think it's racist for someone to choose vanilla ice cream over chocolate lol. Chill sis

That thread was only made to trash talk Sam Smith, which ATRL has a hard-on for.

Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz, and Slash are all biracial and great Rock guitarists. Michael Jackson actually released two Rock songs (Beat It and Dirty Diana), and Prince has written, released, and performed a lot more Rock music than that.

NOT when most of rock music only talks about partying, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle and we can say that pop music and rock music both have the same amount of iconic artists.
But you don't see pop fans going on youtube videos saying "why this video has not the same amount of views like that baby video of justin bieber, my generation sucks" not implying the logic of why it happens, you only looks like fools, because if you use that brain of yours, you would now the reason why a song released 20 years ago won't have the same popularity than something released 5 years ago in the time where the youth grew up watching youtube videos and not MTV!
But then if a girl likes a band male rock fans are the first ones saying that she is faking it just to be different and attract guys and rock fans are the same who gets mad if a band gets popular, so in fact rock fans get annoyed by everything, if you don't know them they complain, if you know them they complain because they also think that because you listen to pop music too, basically they complain about everything

When and if a black underperforms and a white artist succeeds, we can always pull the race card. I think that is what he is getting at.

There's a difference between not knowing who someone is and actively insulting their music taste, since apparently you lack the intellectual capacity to make that distinction
They're like pop stans on steroids. So overly aggressive

I don't think he is. It isn't because music is made in the decades before yours that it's for old folks. And it isn't because music is made in the decades after yours that it's noise only the newer generations would get.
When you listen to music of previous decades, take into consideration what preceded it. Then you would be like thank god that artist x, band y,... changed it.

If y'all are so damn sure that it's because of race, why keep having these stupid discussions when you already know the answer? Many people are already sick of the race thing being brought up in every single ATRL discussion, then you complain when people call you SJWs as if you didn't already know how ATRLers act when you shove the same **** down their throats.

Because they are pressed that the GP generally isn't here for this genre the way it used to be. It stems from a general snobby attitude about music that they feel is uncultured being "above" their faves currently.
