A total of fourteen Bowie albums and nine singles have impacted today’s latest Official Chart sales flash, based on sales up to midnight last night.
Bowie’s latest album Blackstar, which was released last Friday and was already heading for Number 1 this week before news of his death broke, continues to lead the way with just under 90,000 combined sales in today’s sales flash – more than doubling its sales overnight.
The record is well on its way to beating the first week numbers of his last studio album The Next Day, which logged 94,000 sales in its opening week in March 2013.
Meanwhile, a further thirteen of the superstar’s albums are on course to re-enter the Top 100, six of which have broken into the Top 40 already based on sales up to midnight last night. Three are retrospectives: 2014’s Nothing Has Changed is on course to re-enter at Number 7, his 1969/1974 Best Of (released in 1997) is at 13 and 2002’s Best Of Bowie rides at 27.
His 1972 album, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, currently rests at Number 19, 1972’s Hunky Dory is at 20, and 1973’s Aladdin Sane sits at 32.
Another seven Bowie records have landed just outside the Top 40 on today’s latest sales flash: Low and The Next Day are hovering at Numbers 42 and 44 respectively, and 1974’s Diamond Dogs is at 51. The Top 100 as of today is completed by Heroes (62), Best Of 1980/1987 (63), Let’s Dance (81), and Station To Station (99).
Another two of his songs are currently just outside the Top 40: Let’s Dance at 43 and Space Oddity at 48.
Further down, Lazarus (86), Under Pressure (87), Ashes To Ashes (90) and Changes (94) are also inside the Top 100.
