Charlie Sheen quits HIV meds
Quote:
Charlie Sheen admitted on Tuesday that he has been off his HIV medication “for about a week now” and is seeking alternative treatment in Mexico.
“I’ve been off my meds for about a week now,” he said on “The Dr. Oz Show.” “Am I risking my life? Sure. So what? I was born dead. That part of it doesn’t faze me at all.”
The actor also said he is seeking treatment from a physician named Dr. Sam Chachoua, whom Dr. Mehmet Oz says is not licensed to practice medicine in the United States.

In November, the sitcom star revealed to Matt Lauer on NBC’s “Today” that he was diagnosed with HIV four years ago. During his appearance, he said that doctors found an undetectable amount of the virus in his blood. However, two months later, Sheen told Dr. Oz that he received some terrible news before stepping onto the stage.
“I’m a little off my game, because right before I walked out here, I got some results that I was disappointed about,” he said. “I know this is an experiment, that I took a stroll down a different path. But yeah, I’d been non-detectable and non-detectable and checking the blood every week, and then found out that the numbers were back up.”

It's hard to blame him for taking desperate measures, but...yeah, I'm not foreseeing this working out well for him.

His body will become immune to the meds, he'll get AIDS, become incredibly ill (that's if he doesn't already become ill in the process), and eventually die a long and painful death. Perhaps he doesn't know this, doesn't care, in which case good luck.

That's up to him if he wants to continue his medication, but he must know that once he tries to start taking them again, they may not work out the way they used to and he could create different types of resistance to the medication. If he was undetectable and numbers were back up, he could have simply talked to his doctor and seek for alternative medications.

Conspiracy theorists.

The U.S. government investment in the domestic response to HIV has risen to more than $24 billion per year.
Funding for HIV services is spread across multiple federal departments, including Health and Human Services (HHS), Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Veterans Affairs (VA), and Defense. Within HHS, in particular, responsibility for HIV programs is spread across multiple agencies including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Health Resources and Services Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Indian Health Service, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy (OHAIDP), the Office of Minority Health, and others. Responsibility for HIV research is primarily owned by the National Institutes of Health (NIH); in addition, CDC, VA, Defense, and the United States Agency for International Development also support research initiatives. This distribution of responsibility is appropriate, as each agency has its own expertise, and different agencies operate different programs with varying legislative mandates, purposes and with unique histories.
