And what is your method of comparisons for these countries? Not all countries would be developing/modernizing equally.

Their overall fertility rate would have to be increase, at least for a little while, to get to from 800 million to 4.5 billion people JUST in Africa. And the number of children per woman drops as nations move towards modernization (or whatever you want to call it) and away from high poverty and high child mortality rates (like the other person said.) Any development will slow growth towards the 4.5 bil. number. I'd like to see the current population growth rates vs their projected ones because the latter has to make a lot of assumptions about where a country is headed, especially going farther than 50 years or so
