College never forces us to buy textbooks here. We actually receive some books in school library for the whole term. And for the expensive ones - I use them in pdf format on my notebook and tablet.

Obviously... Thank god I have some nice professors who are considerate and tell us to only buy what we need.

Yes. It's not even a question at this point. For NO reason should I have to pay nearly a thousand dollars per semester for physical copies of the textbooks I need for my classes. I shouldn't be forced, more or less, to illegally download .pdf files because I legitimately can't afford to buy my books.

lol. College in America is as big as a scam can get. I've really started to nice it over the past few months. It's not just the books; literally everything is overpriced.

Finally one of my 5 classes gave out the syllabus for the semester, and you have to be ****ing kidding me.....

god i had one class where we all had to buy/rent a $90 book by the professor. he didn't even write it. it was a reader of existing sociology texts that he put together. so ****ing stupid

Yes they rearrange the book with the same info so that we need to buy the new one so that everyone has the same pages

I rent my books for $20-$30 a semester. Sooo much easier than buying and selling books tbh.

I AGREE. Literally every first month of the new semester I'm always ****ing broke. And sometime you could get something much cheaper that's basically the same book with a new cover and an extra chapters but they don't tell you this.

Luckily many of my professors are shifting and getting involved in this issue.

UGH, I had to do this last semester. I found my Chem textbook online but I needed an access code for homework, and the code alone was almost as much as the bundled hardcover textbook for $160, so of course I got the bundle

I'm in the same situation now with my Human Sexuality course. Found the last version of the textbook online, but we need the access code for quizzes that account for only 20/330 of our final points, and our prof warned us that we could study the wrong statistics and stuff in an old textbook. Like what am I supposed to do? if I want a chance at an A I need the stupid access code, but the book will cost $200-300. Oh, and it's written by the prof I almost feel like dropping the class.

Just buy the old versions on eBay or Amazon, they're pretty much the same as the previous years.

Luckily my university library (usually) had enough textbooks. Fines for taking back the books late are less than the cost of buying the books, which is something to remember...
