We have a gate... but my dad said once that someone could come up to the front door with a gun and demand money.... i don't believe that is likely
we have a gate too but our neighbors have a gate that uses bars to frame it and so dogs slip in through there and theyre to lazy to do anything about it. argh i cant wait to move out.
