Dragon Age is a high fantasy role-playing video game series created by BioWare. The first game, Dragon Age: Origins, was released in 2009. Dragon Age II, a sequel to Origins, was released in March 2011. Dragon Age: Inquisition was released in November 2014. The series' fantasy setting has also been used by a variety of other media, including books and tabletop games, and the three main games have been joined by a variety of downloadable content (DLC) add-ons.
Does anyone else play these? The writing and ESPECIALLY the characters are so great, and the gameplay is fun too My favorite would have to be Origins, followed by Inquisition, but I really enjoy all three and literally can't wait for the fourth one Especially since it's taking place in
Tevinter
based on the Trespasser ending. I've always wanted to see there
And for those curious, my fav. character is Zevran, followed by Alistair. Others include: Shale (Origins), Anders (DA2), Fenris (DA2), Cole (Inquisition), Dorian (Inquisition), Leliana (Origins + Inquisition), Nathaniel (Awakening), and like a bunch more. It'd be easier to name who I don't like: Bethany (literally nothing character), Tallis (Mary Sue), Sera (I get she's supposed to be an idiot and I can handle that... but she's meant to be a funny idiot and she doesn't make me laugh ), and I'm not too big on Aveline either (way better than the other 3, but her ****-shaming queen Isabela gets old, and I think she's a bit bland in comparison to everyone in 2)
And in b4 anyone who has played this here gushes over Vivienne and picks her as
Divine
even tho she completely goes against everything this site says it stands for (I love her and I think she's a great character, but horrible person)

Origins had exceptional character development. A shame the games that followed couldn't live up to its standards.

Also, I adored Morrigan, but my decisions always pissed her off
Even when I'd try to pick things to make her happy she'd get mad.

I LOVED her in Inquisition, but she kinda bugged me in Origins. Like... I get they wanted to make her a ruthless pragmatist, and I'm 100% good with that.... but this woman was just stupid evil. I never had a problem making her happy, I just had to abandon ENTIRE CITIES I NEEDED to die or go slaughter a bunch of innocent people who I needed help from for not holding a world wide revolution
And loved Alistair. As for character development, I do think 2 and Inquisition do pretty great jobs too, but Origins is definitely the highpoint. It mainly wins on Gameplay for me. It's just so far ahead of the other two. Inquisition probably has the best plot, despite the suckiest villain. Go figure.

Probably my favorite game franchise ever. These games were a big part in helping me come to terms with my bisexuality. I'm so ready for DA4.

OMG YAS ANOTHER FENRIS STAN I take it he's your fav?
And yeah, these are amazing at handling LGBT issues. The lead writer also repeatedly clocks stupid homophobes who complain about it being present

Fenris and Morrigan are my faves. While I agree Origins is the best in the franchise, I have loved every game so much. I just don't see the loathing for DA2. I might be biased because of Fenris though. I hope he makes an appearance in DA4 like Morrigan in Inquisition.

2 has great characters (well... mostly....), it's pretty much everything else thats a mess. Mainly the enemy waves, repeated locations, and the messy plot (it's by far the most original and ambitious and has great ideas/moments.... but it's pretty aimless at first and disjointed afterwards ) I still like it a lot, though
It would be so f***ing inhumanly wasteful NOT to use Fenris in DA4 if the location is where they implied it is. Though with how divisive he is, it's pretty up in air. He certainly won't have a huge role seeing as he can die, but even a DA2-sized cameo would be nice Aside from him, seeing Anders/Justice/Vengeance again seems like a no-brainer. Not for long, but a cameo to show how he reacts to living in this world seems so important to him.

Absolutely adore this franchise I love the fantasy genre and on top of that the LGBT representation is like a dream.
Even though DA2 is vastly inferior to the other two I still enjoyed it because of the two elf characters. I love how they're like exact opposites.
edit: Rival Fenris romance is lowkey hawt too.

I think the characters are why I'm able to overlook the flaws of two. I hate that Fenris can die for that very reason. They better pull some Leliana in Inquisition type BS for him.
Solas fascinates me and makes me so excited for the direction of DA4. The thought of what's to come.

The new writer who took over for Gaider actually came up with an ingenious, intelligent, lore-friendly explanation for the Leliana stuff.
The real Leliana died at the Urn of Sacred Ashes. However, due to the heavy amount of lyrium in the area, a fade spirit was able to break through and take on her form and act like her, a lot like Cole. In Trespasser, if she's not Divine and Leliana died at the Ashes, Fade!Leliana eventually returns to the fade and just disappears since she feels her job is done
And I think Bioware is taking notes, since you can only kill a few Inquisition ones (Blackwall indirectly, Iron Bull), neither of whom seem like they'd have huge roles in future ones. But yeah, it's disappointing as well They could pull a Garrus or Tali (ME3) with him I guess I think the only character were truly guaranteed to see more of is Dorian for the next game. He's got the same thing going on Varric did in 2 (unkillable, set to be going to the location of the next game, CLEARLY written to be a beloved fan fav and was a successful one at that)

Are you serious?! That's really clever and really sad. I never killed her so I never found out why she was alive. I loved Varric in 2 but didn't really like him in Inquisition. It always felt like he was Hawkes bro so he could never be as close to my Inquisitor. I agree and am glad that Dorian will most likely be back. I hope Maevaris is a companion in the next one or has a big role.
The information that was revealed in The Descent and Trespasser has me so curious as to where everything is going.

I haven't yet either, tho I may sometime, but I looked up the different epilogues and yes! Here's the text-
Though nothing is more heartbreaking than Cullen's fate if he gets hooked on lyrium again. Poor guy And I definitely prefer Varric in 2, but I still liked him in Inquisition as well. He was more distant, but I felt it still worked, and he has great banter. Though, somehow, the best banter in Inquisition is Vivienne/Sera. They're f***ing hilarious together. Vivienne CLOCKS her at EVERY turn. Like, on a scale of 1-10, Vivi's at 10,000
I still need to play Descent. Trespasser has me going crazy tho. Between the location and the Solas stuff... I NEED it omg
And do you think Flemeth
is truly dead then? I'm sad we didn't get more of her if so!

I didn't dislike Varric in Inquisition and was glad to see him back. It just felt weird at times. Vivienne was amazing. I totally disagreed with her about mages but the way she interacted with everyone. The way she made even Bull cower like a child.
You should definitely play The Descent if you can. It's a fun dungeon crawler that has huge implications about dwarves at the end.
Flemeth/Mythal better not be dead. She is one of my favorite things about Dragon Age and Katie Mulgrew's voice acting is flawless. She always seems so invincible. I would hate for her to be gone.

Vivienne was so amazing. I absolutely despise her as a person and everything she stands for in literally every way, it's so wonderful. She's such an amazingly written character and I always recruit her. I just wish she did more at the Winter Palace.
I really want to play that and the other non-Trespasser DLC. I'm actually planning to do a series play through soon to establish my DA canon for #4.
I AGREE SO MUCH

Jaws of Hakkon is good. It's kind of filler but still has some cool lore in it and explores how the Fade works a little more. But Descent and Trespasser reveals huge secrets and are what sets the stage for where the rest of the series is going. It's crazy to look back at Origins and see how little you new the world and how it worked. Ugh. I'm such a nerd with this game.
