He does realize that religious beliefs really don't have a place in the courtroom (besides personal conduct), right? You can't ban gay marriage on religious reasons, that violates the first amendment. And I say this as a Christian (admittedly, a very pro-LGBT who sees nothing wrong with being LGBT one, but still)
