iTunes was already declining 13% every year.
Downloading, saving, collecting,... files is obsolete when you can pull whatever music out of thin air. If your music isn't available there, entire continents act like you don't exist.
Change replaced the stars. Talkies ended silent movie actors (not all voices are nice). MTV ended the stars born for radio and not adopting to short movies as music videos. MTV doesn't play music videos anymore and the MTV clones, competitors stopped broadcasting last year.
Katy believed that this generation doesn't want to pay for music at all. Some iTunes and streaming coins is nice to have.
