Absolutely this.
How many times have we seen Idol/X Factor etc contestants flop? Just because you have a big vocal range and a strong voice, doesn't mean you over anything remotely different or interesting to pop music.
With that said, black women absolutely have it more difficult in the industry because they're immediately put into the RnB box, except if they can cross over to pop.
I've seen this watching Tinaslay struggle to get her break out moment
