Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. I say this because (1) it's a hard read and I was happy that I was able to get through it and (2) the way it's written and the message behind the book are both so amazing and great. I should reread it
The Diary of Anne Frank. It got me interested in the whole subject of The Holocaust.
