Taylor continues to impress me with her maturity. I COMPLETELY agree with her in this one.
Also, what is THE STIGMA against celebrity fragrances? Most of them are amazing and smell great!! Selling perfume doesn't mean anything, why are people so against it?
Rih isn't American by nationality, but she launched her career here. The US is her home market, hence her continually being lumped in with American acts by media.

And that's an interesting point they made and I agree partially in the sense that she's viewed in a completely different way. Adele is absolutely a music brand however, and one of the all time biggest -- but her brand is definitely seen as "other" altogether because of its purity. She's never chosen to walk the pop conglomerate path that all the other major acts have taken; she's not pitching movies, drinks, makeup, fragrances and clothes alongside her music and in her down time.
It's refreshing and endearing to have this one incredibly relatable person that seems entirely disinterested in partaking in the mega pop machine yet isn't judgmental or pretentious or snooty about it in the way that makes a lot of the other non-establishment acts rather off putting. She really is just a sweet grounded woman fully invested in her music and nothing else and there's no undercurrent drag of cynics and skeptics bred by all of the other things we see from pop stars/celebs to limit her reach. It's not that she isn't a brand; she's just not a brand for hire and that ultimate purity is the key to its massive potency.
But why do so many people feel that way? Do people, who can do it all, tend to come across as a threat and therefore people start associating traits such as "shes money-hungy", "shes too perfect - this is inauthentic" etc. with them? Lets face it, its not like a Beyonce or so has less artistry about her than Adele for instance, yet people do believe Adele's more artistic (if you get what Im saying). I think it has a lot to do with what is going on subliminally. As you say, Adele is relatable, not only through her music, but also through her character, her life, her appearance, etc.. Its a lot of these factors as well. People genuinely grant her all the success whereas with people like Bey, Rih etc., they feel like they already "have enough".
also, the fact that before 21, she had already sold millions with 19 and won grammys etc, she walks into a record store in london and ask for a job, to keep in touch with music and she loves it.
they said she can work on thursdays and says like "great, but i must have a day off next thursday tho cuz i'm playing the hollywood bowl then"!
seriously, WHO the **** else would do that?!
it's remarkable and wonderful!
same with between 21 and 25, she took a break to birth and raise their kids. just being a mum.
royalties helps of course but she knows her background; young single mother growing up in the ruffest part of London

The same reason people become exasperated with anything they feel is commercialized -- you'll hear droves of people complaining around every holiday about corporate agendas. The same logic applies to pop stars as well. Anything that feels heavily profit angled grates a lot of people and makes them question the validity or legitimacy of whatever (or whomever) is presented. Whether or not those feelings have any validity at all is wholly inconsequential because perception trumps everything.

Not some of yall jumping on my post faster than a twink on a ****. I wasn't trying to drag her, her music is good and she's talented, but she is nowhere near as good as the sales and the GP make her seem. Good for her for slaying so hard, but she's a bit overrated. Yall give her too much credit.
Adele is winning because she appeals to grand mothers, grand fathers, fathers, mothers, sons, daughter, gays, straights etc. She doesn't do anything controversial, her music is the only thing people talk about. You never see her exept when she's on a stage or during an interview. Finally, there's also a part of "she makes REAL music".
She is just as commercial as the rest, if not more. Her refusal to brand out doesn't change. Her music is incredibly accessible and she is branded as "real music" and validates a social need to seem deep.
What a load of horse****. Adele became a brand as soon as it became trendy to bandwagon her, and anyone who thinks otherwise is just deluding themselves. White, safe, slow, British, ... without any of these aspects her brand would not work.
