Why are they excluded from being simply "American" yet whites are allowed to identify that way? I'm not connected to any of my European ancestors...so I wouldn't really call myself European American. If people aren't connected with their African roots, why do they need to call themselves African American? Some probably don't even know which countries in Africa their family are from or maybe not even know who their grandparents are. If they feel 100% American and identify with American culture only, I say let them identify that way.
They shouldn't be ridiculed for saying they are American when whites can claim that.

Exactly. I don't understand this mentality some people have where they want equality among the races, yet criticize someone for identifying as such. Tbh, like I said in my previous post, identifying as simply "American" can include a variety of races and helps get rid of that racial separation that still exists. I don't feel like someone's race or skin color should matter, and if we started just calling eachother "American" it unifies us and gets rid of that line.
