Sales. Title has sold almost a million copies, I'm not even sure Aquarius sold 100k.
I'm sorry, but the narrative she/her fans try to push that her label is ignoring her doesn't seem genuine. Her lead single came out 2 years ago and she's collabed with big hit makers like DJ Mustard, Mike Will Made It, Max Martin, etc. All of her singles have either remixes (All Hands on Deck f/ Iggy, Dej Loaf) or big name collabs (R.Kelly f/ Tinashe, Tinashe f/ DJ Mustard, Tinashe f/ A$AP Rocky, Tinashe f/ Chris Brown, Tinashe f/ Young Thug) and yet she's not getting any hits, she's not really amassing a following and no one is really responding to her.
Lots of artists don't offer anything new, but if they sell well labels will ignore it. Tinashe, Zendaya, Ciara, etc all blend into each other, and all 3 of their last albums have a combine first week total of 42k. It's ridiculous to compare them to Shawn Mendes/The Weeknd/Meghan Trainor because people are actually going out and buying their stuff.

That's why I'm worried. Not because of the wait. If I was her CEO, I'd push the album back too, I've been saying that for a long time. Player is not an album selling song. I'm just worried because of RCA's history...

Right.
She's def a priority...otherwise they would have just pushed the album out in Jan. When labels don't care, you can tell...because they'll release it, ship 20K to stores, let it flop, and call it a day...and drop your ass.
But the pushback does in fact mean that they care about her. Hence her saying its a catch 22.

I mean, there are just a lot of catch 22s really.
She obviously wants the album to do well, but a lot of her music isn't chart friendly.
So she has to put out a low-key generic song to get success, then isn't taken seriously as an artist and is thought of as a 'quick lil singles' artist.

He definitely has a point there is some difficulty with the label because they still don't know how to market her, but pushing back the album was the right decision to make and they're doing it because they want her to smash when the time is right.

80% of her first album is still the same dull, sleepy stuff that forms majority of her mixtape releases so if that's what her fans like, it's unlikely they ran left because of Aquarius.

She had a lot of features and big name producers working on her material. Single order isn't an excuse for her lack of momentum, but promo I can believe since she doesn't book many appearances.
|
She's had actually quiet some buzz when ''2 On'' was peaking and if she had released the most pop-friendly single right after it a.k.a. AHOD, things would've kept on rolling. Instead she picked the most uninteresting single from the album and crashed the whole era with it.
Then at the 0% hype moment she released the AHOD video and returned some eyes on her with a brilliant video, but even the best possible MV couldn't make up for the insane lack of promotion and the buzz that was just....gone.
Single orders do mean a lot, singles have to keep momentum, the buzz. It's especially important for new artist and that was her debut era.

she's on Calvin Harris album and was on the Hunger Games soundtrack
she had a collabo with Ty Dolla Sign and Charli XCX too..Kid Ink and Usher
she's had a bigger push than Natalie La Rose

I have hope they know how to move forward with her career this year. Of course she needs more promo. Since it's only her sophomore album I'm sure she wants to make a big impact but realistically it's time to let Player go.
I give it a couple more weeks until another single comes up. She can start pushing All My Friends until then and start doing more shows, interviews and performances to lead up to the release. Could totally see her going on an international promo run to really push these songs everywhere. Might as well give us some visuals for a couple songs before hand to give Joyride more life.
She can make the dream happen, but we must stay strong in this struggle.

no she haven't. People want to work with her because she's respected as an artist, it's not a label stuff. Probably only Chris verse on Player and her verse on Let's Be Real Now by R. Kelly were organized by RCA.
Tinashe had less than 10 worldwide TV performances in her whole career, while Natalie had probably the double for only two singles.

Why sign artists if they're not going to bother to promote them?

The thing is you guys keep dismissing Pretend because it did poorly. Pretend is a commercial-friendly song. Detail produced that song at his peak, along with other similar sounding songs (Drunk In Love, I Luh Ya Papi) which were doing well on radio. Had she released AHOD first or Pretend we don't know what would have happened, but you can't blame Pretend for her lack of momentum when the song should have been a moderate hit regardless. It was crafted to be one.
It also has an ASAP feature for urban spins. Single order is important but in Tinashe's case it wasn't a factor because she released all of her most commercially viable songs. 2 On, Pretend, Feels Like Vegas, and AHOD. They all should have done moderately well since they were all intended to be singles, and yet none of them made an impact except for 2 On. Single order isn't to blame for her. Her material just isn't sticking. She also doesn't have as much promo as other artist (Ariana, Charli XCX, Iggy, etc.).

I'm not dismissing it cause it flopped, no one was EVER here for it. Sweet J could have produced Pretend, it would've never become a hit. Famous producers sitting behind tracks means sh!t nowadays, if a song isn't a hit it just isn't. Look at Tori Kelly's Max Martin produced tracks.
Let's just agree to disagree, I know most of T's stanbase get what I'm saying.

We can but I'm just saying you guys claim she /needed/ AHOD released next, when in fact to the average listener all 3 singles she released after 2 On were pop. They are commercial, they just didn't stick. Her single order wasn't the problem. I think she's talented and I wish her the best, but it's her lack of promo, image, and outfits holding her back.
