More Important: Vocal Technique or Emotion
Which do you feel is more important for a singer: objectively perfect technique or a passion and emotion in the performance that moves the audience members?

I mean if you're a singer, technique is pretty important. You can have all the passion in the world, but if you off-key then you ain't gon' sound good.
That's like being a chef but not knowing cooking techniques but having passion for food. If you don't know how to cook the meat well, it ain't gon' taste good no matter how much you care for it.

Emotion, this is the pop world not the opera or some jazz festival
I personally relate much more to songs that actually convey feelings, that is not easy to do, hence I stan Madonna.

Agreed. They love singers like Christina and Adele, who can screw up technique at times but make up for it with how powerful and emotive they are!

Technique on its own >>> emotion on its own.
Emotion and technique together are what make a great vocalist great.

MJB is a prime example of this. She can have some emotion behind her voice, but sometimes she sounds a hot ass mess.

For a singer, emotion.
For a vocalist, technique.
Regardless, technique is still important for a singer. You can't sing (well or at all) without some degree of proficient technique. If you're pitchy AF, or just vocally messy, no one will give a **** that you're pouring your heart out.

Technically, yes. But technique with no emotion just sound so.... empty and hollow.

Yeah, I meant to imply the singer had enough basic proficiency to, like, be on key

Both are important. Look at Adele, she has both and is smashing.
Good Music > Emotion and Technique > Vocal Range.

I don't care much for technique.
The ability to convey emotion and the intent of a song is much more important to me.

If you're a Madonna/Britney Spears/Taylor Swift, technique doesn't mean ****.
If you're a Whitney Houston/Mariah Carey/Beyoncé/Christina Aguilera(!!!)/Kelly Clarkson/Adele, technique will always matter as technically proper singing sounds better & you'd want to preserve your voice for a long time.
