Yes. While science and maths are important technical subjects for work, topics such as sociology are incredibly necessary to be able to live with other people in society. People need to learn about race, ethnicity, sexuality, sexual health and mental health to lessen the stupidity and ignorance that festers in entire communities.

I really don't understand why some of you are saying no, and that maths and science should take precedence (when they are the most supported subjects globally ). You can't complain about racism, sexism or homophobia while saying that people shouldn't learn sociology. It's just as much a science as physics, biology and chemistry. The fact that some of you don't even know what it is proves that it needs more support.

If you are studying politics and law (which you can't deny is important for society) you need to learn sociology to understand PEOPLE, ethics and equality.

Yes, if it goes by the topics in the OP. A lot of my friends took Sociology in our university, but learned more about ideologies and social classes. I had the same teacher, but a different class called Gender Studies. There, we learned about inequalities in gender, race, and sexuality, as well as the basis of transgenderism and the oppression that group faces. Amazing class, even though my teacher was kind of an asshole.

i agree. most young people won't appreciate it, i thought having history mandatory in our high schools would lesson the general ignorance but it really hasn't had much effect.

Exactly, so many politicians and other leaders come into influential positions completely ignorant of the lives of many, going on to make decisions on their behalf. It's ridiculous.
