Use mute option. That way notifications won't pop up every single time someone writes something. This was you can just catch up with the conversation at your own time.

Not all countries have unlimited texting - WhatsApp is HUGE outside of the US for this reason.

UK has unlimited texting almost as a default. No one uses regular texting anymore. Maybe 1 out of 20 people if that. WhatsApp replaced everything.

Not to mention the free phone calling and soon free video calling.

Texting = nn I know so many people who don't have texts, there's frankly no point anymore. I barely use mine.
At this point, Whatsapp is much easier to use because almost everyone has it. Even my parents, and I can't remember the last time I saw my dad on a laptop
Funny thing is, I prefer iMessage but when you have no wifi/data it just doesn't send. At least Whatsapp waits until you have some format of Internet connection and delivers the message

Data = can use Whatsapp, Whatsapp call, Skype, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google, iMessage, Snapchatt you name it.
I get 2GB internet, unlimited texts and 500 minutes but if I could get rid of any of those, it'll be texts in a heartbeat because I don't text anyone anymore, everybody (where I live anyways - UK), is using Whatsapp or iMessage if they have iPhones
Only time I text is when I'm in a location where there's no signal for data or I've ran out of data which is very rarely

I rarely text. iMessage yes, but Whatsapp is where all the group chats are.
