...and the #1 album!

| 1. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly

Everything about it is just
Where should I even begin. Maybe with the fact that it's so eclectic (hip hop, jazz, funk, spoken word etc.) that literally everyone will find here something for themselves? Maybe with the lyrics, which are honestly 2deep4me? I mean, there is a lot about politics and black community, topics which aren't really my thing, but it's all so well-written and touching that I just can't not appreciate it, and there's also a bit about his career (the puns to his older tracks!), fears and well, These Walls covers an insane range of various themes. Maybe with the vocals, the perfect, emotive, unique, sometimes relaxed, sometimes as serious as they could get, provided by both Lamar himself and the herd of guests? Maybe with addictive melodies and the phenomenal use of samples? Maybe with the production which is obviously top-notch (even the Pharrell Willaims contributions)? Maybe with the huge variety of real human emotions this album provides? Or maybe with the fact that me, who thought of himself as rather a hip hop disowner, puts the record at his #1 without even thinking? Yeah, I had some problems with placing all the albums below it but this has always been the #1, far above all the others.
Honestly, everything about it is perfect. Everything, from the sampled intro of Wesley's Theory to the interview used in Mortal Man. From the carefree bops, like Institutionalized or King Kunta, to the dark, thrilling and chills-giving The Blacker the Berry, u or How Much a Dollar Cost (the storytelling, omg). It's a really important and touching record, but it works very well even when I just want to relax and forget about the lyrics. Kendrick proved that the amazing good kid, m.A.A.d city wasn't just a fluke. It was only the beginning, and I'm looking forward to hearing what he does next.
Oh, and let's not forget about the narcissistic anthem i, where Kendrick raps that he loves himself. Well, if I was him, I would too! |

Sorry I was around earlier, but great list.
I should listen to more of these tbh. But I love Vulnicura, Unbreakable and Honeymoon. (Where's Froot though )
Some eclectic taste in the songs list too.
I'll go back over this thread and delve more into what you said.

On the other hand, I'm really feeling Biophilia today? I don't think this has ever happened before.

I haven't heard Kendrick's album, but I know I should.
Is your #1 song 24-minutes long?????????? Jesus Christ.

Great number one album even if I didn't realize that you liked Kendrick that much! I don't know which of his albums I like best right now. Originally I was thinking his debut was definitely better, but TPAB grew on me.
Haven't heard your top song pick but I'll check it out in the new year!

Great #1 pick! Definitely one of those absolute MOMENTS in music, and your write-up captured it really well. I'm glad The Blacker The Berry was your #2 for songs as well.

I like Bjork's Timbo collabs. Turmoil, carnage
Anyway, Vulnicura is an incredible album.
To Pimp A Butterfly is a deserving number 1 and The Blacker The Berry is my favorite song off it.
Happy New Year and thank you for hosting such a great best of!
I'm gonna need to get into Nightwish #NewYearsResolution

Myślę, że każdy mógł się tego domyśleć, przewidywalny jestem. A, i te moje pierwsze piątki wyglądają tragicznie, to naprawdę przypadek, że prawie wszyscy artyści się w nich pokrywają

Nightwish is amazing.

And here's to hoping TPAB eventually grows on you

Good taste, and I thought you loved HBHBHB as well. (Regarding Froot, it certainly is not in my top 25 albums of 2015 )

Earth Intruders bops
I'm not sure whether you'd like him or not, but imo it's kind of an essential 2015 release. Not every album gets that much of an acclaim.
Yes That might be a bit of cheating, as it consists five different sections, and could've easily been splitted into five different songs, but whatever. Also, a #funfact, at first it only lasted 3 minutes, then it was prolonged to an hour and in the end, they left it at 24 minutes.

Well, I didn't know I liked Kendrick that much until he released TPAB as well
And by debut, do you mean Good Kid, M.A.A.D City or Section.80?
And I hope you'll like TGSOE

Volta is a mess tbh, but the Timbo collabs are some of the more bearable cuts, I guess.
Thanks, and true, this best of was pretty great
I'd recommend starting with other sings though, going for TGSOE at first might be a biT extreme

Good #1 album! I didn't know you were Nightwish stan for some reason.
I also might be the only one who prefers Biophilia to Vulnicura, but maybe that's only cause of Crystalline and Mutual Core.

Good #1 album! Not my personal favourite album of the year, but I feel like it's kinda objectively the best.
I feel like you recommended me the #1 song before? I'll try and get around to it if I have a spare 24 minutes.
