We've been hearing Adele's music for ages? Please tell me, who makes music similar to Adele? Lady Gaga? Beyoncé? Katy Perry? Rihanna? Britney Spears? Taylor Swift? No, not even Kelly or P!nk. Adele's music isn't that common in the mainstream.
I honestly think you're just jealous.

This was literally the perfect response, Rei. I don't think anyone can argue against anything you said.

Exactly. It's actually saddening that some people can't enjoy music with Metacritic telling them it's good

Adele clearly connects to her audience on a level that some artists with albums that scored "88 points on Metacritic" can't and never will, and she has huge chance to sweep Grammy, the most acclaimed music award, for a second time. If Adele music is basic, then why millions of artists with the same vocal, same "basic" music can't do 1/10 of what she is doing? Why is it only Adele who can defy the downfall of the music industry and sell like it's the 90s? Saying you don't enjoy her music is one thing, but calling an artist who is single handedly turning the whole industry up side down basic is laughable. If she's so basic, why aren't your superior artists doing it? Music snobs are the worst.

I think it's sad that there are true artists that are breaking molds (like FKA twigs and Grimes), making unique music, producing their universally acclaimed albums, creating new sounds, etc. Yet their releases this year won't probably cross the 100.000 mark while Adele sells millions making the same music we've been hearing for ages.

I agree with sounds.

X and 1989 will spend their time in Top 40 for years. The fact if they release their next albums next year will surely help the longevity

Adele's #s are not even surprising...unless youre being ignorant or being a hater, yes I guess. By far, she has the widest appeal of any artist of her generation. You may like it or not, but thats the truth. #s and figures dont lie.

I don't think she has a unique sound, I don't think I'll ever hear "oh, that sounds like an Adele song", in the other hand, when I saw the 25 thread people was saying "that sounds like Florence" or "that sounds like Mariah". I'm not saying she's bad or that her music is crap, I'm just saying it's not ground breaking and that's why I'm surprised it sells so much, that's it.

Adele has never promoted her sound like it was something unique nor her followers. She released an album expressing her feeling, the way she felt, she simply wanted to put music out and that is why she connects with so many people. Others have been pretentious or pretending their work is unique and that is why they haven't been able to find success lately. You of all people should know that.

sigh, so typical that this would turn into an argument...
yes alfonso, of course there are better albums out there than 25, but to actually think that her dominating the charts is a "sad thing for our world" is really some dumb, ignorant ****. do you think the world is a better place w/o adele? are your foundations in life actually the slightest shook by the fact that atleast a person that can sing and is a pretty nice and humble person dominates?
i remember when BEP dominated the charts some years ago and the EDM/autotune trend was at its fullest, of course i disliked that but i have my music to listen to, which is (maybe surprisingly) not adele mostly but extreme metal, folk, classic soul and jazz. they (mostly) don't even make a dent on the charts, and i don't ****ing care, because it's the music i want.
if an artist dominating the charts really bothers you that much, i'd be more worried for your wellbeing than the "quality" of the music that's topping the charts at the moment.
