In light of the Mark Salling case, it got me thinking how weird it is that the age of consent makes a world of difference depending on where you live. Mark was caught with pics of 15/16 year olds I believe. While nasty, in countries like Italy, 15 is the age of consent where Mark's behavior would probably be deemed innocent.
On the flip side, do you think 18 is too high for the US? I 17 would make a bit more sense. It just makes me so mad in situations where 18-19 year old men get branded as sex offenders for life if they mess around with a 16/17 year old. By that age, you are aware of what you are getting into (hopefully).
I just feel like it's a bit messy and hypocritical the way the age of consent varies from country to country.
16 is a decent age, but only to have sex with other 16/17 year olds. 18 should still be the age of full consent.
Mark Salling though, isn't he in his twenties? Even if the age of consent was lower, U18s should still be considered as minors and not allowed to have sex with anyone over 18. He got what he deserved.
That wouldn't be realistic, especially when you have so many different cultures and religions in the world. Having them all agree on an age would be messy. The fact that the US alone has different ages across the states is enough to show that this wouldn't work.
Yeah, the amount people move around these days there should be more consensus on laws. It would be difficult for so many reasons though.

Mark was caught with "pictures of children significantly younger than 15/16"..."specifically **** involving minors engaging in or simulating sexual conduct."

Yeah I assume you're right.
I definitely think within the US there needs to be a consensus.

Oh mess. I didn't read the "significantly younger" part.

These situations should be dealt with on a case by case basis where common sense prevails. If it's clear there's some skeevy stuff going on (coercion, taking advantage) then the law should step in.
