I don't get the hate about Tales of Symphonia 2 tbh. I think they did a great job with the sequel and it was really enjoyable to play. I enjoyed the sequel more so than I did with the first game.
I bought the Japanese versions of Bravely Second and Fire Emblem Fates when I first got to Japan two weeks ago. They are both really great, at least an 8/10, I highly recommend picking them up next year if you have a 3ds.
There are two potential gay marriages in Fates Unfortunately they're not that great for game-play purposes since they deny you children but I still love their inclusion.
Suikoden is like the only Jrpg series I havent played. Would the 2nd game be a good place to start? Though I probably wont be playing it anytime soon with my backlog

I just replayed IX last month, and it was a struggle to get through those random encounters and 5+ seconds battle intros and animations adjklasdjñasm
Just bought Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth:3, Operation Abyss and Atelier Ayesha Plus, ughhh the vita is jrpg heaven
I also got Suikoden 2 months ago but ragequitted due to a glitch
I think I'll replay it sometime in the future but with a guide, the amount of missables is huge
