I was thinking while walking home from work and listening to on repeat and thought, "hmm, are we actually lucky to be alive?"
I mean the only reason I ask is because... We get to live our whole lives, creating wonderful memories, meeting the most extraordinary people and finding love (not just sexual, but I mean family too), just for it all to be forgotten once we die...
Are those sperms, the ones unlucky enough to make it to the egg or unable to penetrate the egg quick enough, really the unlucky ones? Or are they actually the lucky ones?
They never got to experience anything which sucks, but then again, they didn't get to experience to then forget.
yes. also remember all the sperm that we competed against it's honestly crazy to think about and can help if you're feeling down depressed and worthless
I don't know OP. I struggle with finding any sort of purpose to life. Why are we here? What is the actual point? Are we just here to reproduce and die?
I guess we are lucky to have ever experienced life at all. You might not like it, but at least you've experienced it.
Depends on how you're living life. If your goal in life is to just earn tons of money or buy expensive stuff to prove your worth, then no. But if you're actually "living" it–making friends, spending time with your family, doing and loving your passions in life–then yes, you are lucky. Money runs out, but memories last. Yes, maybe when we're dead, they will all be forgotten. But they happened and they are real.
Yes we are lucky. Yeah there is lots of problems but back in the day in the 19th century people died in their early thirties and only if the women survived childbirth. A little cold is annoying now a days but back then it was a death sentence.
We're incredibly lucky. We happen to have remarkable characteristics allowing us to do amazing things with our world. The fact that we're even able to discuss these deep, philosophical, existential questions is remarkable.
