American AO2 deserved to be better production wise.
Jamie Fox should've settled down a bit on the focus chorus

Mickey deserved more man Maybe next year.
I love the production of American Oxygen. I think it really gives the song a mechanistic grind and ugliness that's kind of fitting and gives the song depth.
Jamie definitely could have settled down a little, I agree

I miss him It's kind of weird seeing Luke Bryan on here without him.
Just wait for 45s. It's coming

Of course, Focus was a hit
Sam did kind of take his thunder. Unfortunately, all of Montevallo came out last year and Sam can't chart here
Sam'd probably chart with most his songs if he was eligible. My biggest regret last year was not listing Montevallo. I apologize to the Lil Hunties

People complaining about Focus' chorus definitely do not pay attention to the lyrics. I mean, the guy is singing focus on HER, it's an artistic statement, yet they keep focusing on him The melody is fine and the verses are great, imo it's a better song than Problem
|
I wish more of Caracal sounded like Bang That. I was really hoping for it to be more fun specially since, for the most part, I feel like almost all the featured artists on Caracal turned in much better solo work on their own, songs sung by the Lawrence Brothers excepted of course.
I think I prefer Problem slightly more, but Focus is great also. I do agree with what you said though voice of reason.

American Oxygen is great. I'll defend the Focus chorus as being fun, but I could see how it might be grating. Tbh I loved Focus until Xmas and Chill came out and showed what Ari can really do.

Right? Agree completely on Caracal. I don't mind a more downtempo album, but Caracal is clearly aimed at the dance floor, and well, the songs just don't quite pop like they should. Bang That and Holding On are exceptions.

46. Dawn Richard - Blackheart
| Best album title of the year or no? Although I think I prefer Goldenheart a little more, Blackheart had a lot to love. There's a lot going on on this album sonically. It's an electro R&B album that sounds like it was recorded in the future (just like Goldenheart), but it also feels more adventurous as an album and willing to explore a lot of different musical twists and turns, but that also makes the album feel a little unfocused and slightly aimless at times which definitely holds it back.
It is a very solid album though and even though the electro-R&B thing got a little tired in 2015, Dawn Richard has a more or less unique voice within the genre which is nice to hear.

45. Chris Stapleton - Traveler
| This was just an incredibly solid almost traditional country album which was nice to hear in a year when it seemed like everybody was trying to push the genre forward in a different direction. There's no need for straight-jackets here, or awful Bruno Mars rip-offs that crash and burn instead of being good, just a display of what country music without gimmicks can be.

44. Ariana Grande - Christmas & Chill
| This is the type of thing I have been waiting to hear from Ariana! She delivers 5 of her best songs (and the weirdly vague Winter Things) on her Christmas EP. I definitely will be playing this past Christmas, but I'm almost disappointed that this was just a Christmas EP as good as it is, since there is a chance that Moonlight might not catch that lived in, lightly R&B vibe this EP captures.
The Ep is in the same vein as songs like Tattooed Heart, Right There, Best Mistake, and Be My Baby. Xmas & Chill mostly moves at a slow tempo, the arrangements are mostly restrained (refreshing coming from the noisy Focus), and really, they highlight Ariana and her honeyed vocals. It's a very refreshing release.

43. The Internet - Ego Death
| I discovered these guys thanks to a friend last year and am disappointed I didn't check them out sooner. At least I got to experience the Ego Death era in full, and by experience, I mean, download the album when it came out. Ego Death is a great album, probably The Internet's best. It's chill, and lowkey R&B, never really getting too confrontational or assertive.
I don't really have too much to say about this one, except it's never a bad listen and only really seems to improve with each spin. |

42. Arca - Mutant
| I kind of dropped the ball last year by not including Xen on my list. I think it just took me a little too long to actually get around to that album, but not this year! Instead, I get to underrate Mutant by placing it lower than it probably should be.
Mutant is a... I don't really know how to classify Arca's music. Arca makes electronic music, but it's not really ambient or dance or soundscapes although there is elements of all three types in his material. Instead, I want to say Arca's stuff is more cinematic in nature, but it doesn't quite seem to want to evoke any particular mood in a way that most cinematic music works. It's ugly at times, and other times it approaches something more chill and even clinically clean, sometimes it's more reflective, others it's confrontational. I guess the album lives up to it's title of being a mutant-electronic music that is clearly of one piece but made up of many different styles. It's a long album at 20 songs in an hour, but never quite gets repetitive or out stays its welcome. It's interesting throughout and always stays in motion.

Blackheart was an amazing R&B album. It released early in the year so it's pretty overlooked but it's cohesive & serves quality.
Ego Death is also a unique R&B collection. Has more soul elements to it.
Traveller was decent throughout. One of the few country albums I enjoyed.
Surprised to see Xmas & Chill tbh. It was pretty short, but had the December -Wit It - True Love 1-2-3 punch so it's all good.
Mutant takes a couple of listens to get it, but I liked it. Arca's production isn't for everyone.

Christmas & Chill is 43 spots too low.
I actually liked Mutant a lot more than I thought I would considering the lack of lyrics and I usually hate songs without lyrics because like... why? but he somehow managed to make the songs interesting enough to compensate

Yes, I’m reading this and I’m WAY too late to the Bitch Ass party. But, I’m still commenting all of the relevant sh!t I missed aka the songs. You got Bitch Ass links! Here we go. BTW, I noticed your avi of Drake eating pizza. Now, I want some pizza. Bitch Ass Drake!
102-98: Classic Man is a much better Fancy than Fancy could even be. Classic Man is one of my favorite jams to have fun with and be a goof. Got that Classic Swag. I also enjoy the Kendrick Lamar remix. Listen to it if you haven’t yet. Dat the Game on Halloween? Damn. So clean and fresh.
97-93: Lemme listen to this The Weeknd/Ed song. Not bad. Loved the dark vibe I get from this one. Brings me back to the mysterious and dark days of the Weeknd. I discover Don’t on Beats 1 radio. Really liking this style of music. Get deep in the nighttime. Man, Wesley’s Theory is one of my top fav tracks from the album. The song just feels good and right. The funkiness of that track got me going. Agree what you said on the write-up.
92-82: I only Uptown Funk and what a song that is. Love to get down on that one. It’s one of my top favorite songs of the year.
81-76: I know a lot more songs here. This diugh….ain’t free! Yeah, that interlude tells so much in such a short time. I was on late listening to Hotline Bling despite the hit that it is. Still, an enjoyable song that I don’t mind answering the phone to. David Bowie still kicking it to this day. Man,that song takes me in a wonderful and out of this world journey. It may not Missy’s best (far from it), but it’s still a fun song to get down low and crank it up. This is how we do from where we from.
75-71: God, Worth It is such an annoyance. Being a Talk Dirty knock-off does not help, but my family loves this song esp. my mother who can’t singing this one. My ears are not worth it. Meh on Heartbeat Song.
70-66: More Drizzyness! Now & Forever is really good. Such a great Drake stan you are.
65-61: Hey, I like how Tame Impala does its Beatles referencing psychedelia-accented pop and Pink Floyd influences. The Less I Know The Better is a nice song to get lost into and forget that you know a lot more than you should. I don’t mind the new mainstream Pop Abel and I really enjoy it. This song is no exception. I’m so addicted to it and yeah, he does MJ justice. Honeymoon started out too slow and boring, but it got me good as the song progress.
60-56: Just noticed that you got the wrong set banner (still says 65-61). In fact, you made some small mistakes in the recap post of the first page, but whatever. Lemme me listen to this Game/K-Dot song since I slept on the Game and more King Kunta! Plus, I don’t like any songs except that lame ass Carly Rae Jepson song. Alright, this song on fire and go hard and laid-back at the same time mostly laid-back tho. The Westside! That’s on me. Rise Up!
55-52: I just realized the X-mas smiles! Nice they are. I wonder how long we will have them for. Want to Want Me is good.
51-47: Damn at your rock rant at 51. I’ve seen that song on YTT before. I listen to it another time. Everyday is my jam. Everyone needs a Smoke Break well except for me. It is esp. not good for me, but I can take a drink break.
46-42: Finally, latest set. Bang That American Oxygen. Can’t resist the puns you know. I heard Focus on the radio and I hate it. Ehh, pop radio lately kinda sucks. There's less good there. Kick the Dust Up! Fun and silly song. Country Party ain’t a bad thing ‘less it’s too much and it’s too Bro Country.
That took a lot of time than I wanted. Guess I love to take my time and get distract to listen to some of the music I haven’t heard yet. Great Bitch Ass Best of so far. I really enjoyed it. You have impressive write-ups. Can’t wait for you to bring more updates.

Your description of Ariana's EP makes me definitely want to check it out! I didn't give it a go but now that it's after Xmas I'm a little disappointed I didn't. The Internet also had a good album! I wish I listened to it earlier in the year though.

Yeah, I think most prefer Goldenheart but both are great. GH has more bangers and easy listening songs.
I might have to check ouut Christmas & Chill, only she or Miley would name their album title that.
Great to see Ego Death it's such a chill album.
