I just wanna address this since I saw the posts on this. I don't think the whole problem is bringing up characters in the form of stereotypical tropes (the homosexual man that cross-dresses and is overly flirtatious with a main character)
I think a significant part of this issue is how the writers decide the rest of the imagined world reacts and interacts with the stereotyped character. Lussuria in Reborn is depicted as a flamboyant queer man that makes unabashed advances on some of the male characters. Outside of the obvious hyper feminine qualities and exaggerated animations/drawings qualities, there are characters that insist on pointing out how "weird" he is. Now, that's not as bad as some series that will label these characters as outright "gross", but I think it's damaging to the LGBT community for people to take in this information and learn the subtly ignorant association between homosexuality and "weirdness".
If these reactions were more positive towards stereotyped characters, I'd feel better about them
