A lot of actual Africans I know/people with African parents probably wouldn't even see Africa as a holiday spot. My Nigerian friend said it's not picturesque etc. Sad really

Very true, I am guilty of that myself
I asked my older sister why there were so many white people here and and she said Ghana is actually a popular holiday spot in West Africa!
There's loads of Asians, Americans, Europeans here surprisingly.
Many popular Africa holiday locations include: Morrocco, Eygpt, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa

Morocco is probably the biggest vacation hot spot country in Africa. Then comes South Africa.

I'm in Africa for holiday (Ghana), and there's KFC, there's restaurants, the Apple Store, Mango -- the average house here is bigger than the ones in London (where I live), there's literally everything
I even heard some white lady with an African accent

This I've been there twice and lived in very big houses with bathrooms that looked fancier than most bathrooms over here in Germany
The real issue is the mentality, for me at least

yup. The developed world's perception of Africa is so skewed. Of course there's poverty, but it's not one huge shithole made up of poor dirty villages

Dude even our president thinks that, he once said do you want to live in a place with no roads like in Africa?

A shame really

Because the only thing the media ever shows about Africa is "poor, starving, malnourished children living in huts walking around barefoot listening to Sara Mclachlan on their 1950's transistor radios that they just got last month with the help of your donations".
I think the world is in need of a revolution when it comes to African representation. Pretty much everything in media is centered around European history, which is a big reason why most people don't see Africa as a viable or interesting place.
Even in movies, books, video games, etc. European lore is always the basis for epic films and books (game of thrones, lotr, harry potter, vikings, etc). But most people don't even realize how rich African lore and folktales are. Most of them are actually more epic and fantastical than Europe's. Film was a big reason why certain countries started to boom as huge tourist spots: New Zealand and Iceland for example. Hopefully as the world continues through this current racial diversity phase, we'll see more entertainment based around African mythology instead of just European. If people see that Africa's culture is just as rich as Europes, they'll grow interested enough to visit. Right now the best we have are the various movies about the ancient land of white Egypt.

My dad is half South African/half Dutch and my mom's parents were East African (but I was born/live in the US)
-
And I've been to both South Africa and Kenya and I can confirm that Jo'Burg, Cape Town and Nairobi are on par with literally any American city you can think of (except maybe New York.)
There's nothing we have that they don't have.

I'd LOVE to visit Africa. Every single region. It's sad that the media portrays it as such a bad place and that people believe it instead of doing their own research.
On a whole though, black people don't really travel much.

This piping hot tea
I want to go to Africa so bad, I'm from Cameroon and really wanna visit family but I've been there before and yeah its not the **** hole they portray here in the US, ofcourse there's poverty but there's so much more.
Another perception people have of Africa is a lack of diversity. In landscape but in particular people. Everyone thinks every african is extremely dark skin with very profound ethnic features. However Africa is the most genetically diverse continent. My mother is the same color as Taraji P Henson has thin lips and a very small nose but is still 100% west african in origin. It's ridiculous the perception people have about Africa.
