It's obvious by now an album selling more first week and subsequent weeks after compared to previous efforts is FLOPPING. She should sold 20k first week with the Red album and sold less than that every week until she died and then sold 500k in total and it would've been successful
Not really. Everyone has a unique career. I think Aaliyah is cool and all but her death has inflated everything surrounding her. Her peers from when she was alive aren't relevant today. If she was alive, she'd probably have some artistic mess-ups, people would be citing her a lot less than they do now and she probably would have lost popularity over time just like anyone else.
Yea, she had a movie career too but those films weren't acclaimed and they did average in the box office.
The quality of her music is a different story though, cause she was working with good (at the time at least) producers who went on to do big things after her death. We really won't know if her death led to any of their artistic or commercial peaks, or if they would have replicated their work with other people with Aaliyah if she was alive.
No way to know. I hate that her life/career ended so soon.
I always imagine she would have been like the alternative answer to Beyoncé,
the fact that the latter's career took off the way it did doesn't mean she would have retired lol.
She would be in a worse position, Brandy and Monica who were both bigger also could not keep up their momentum.
And she would not have been able to keep up with Beyonce and Alicia.
No one really knows, because we don't know which directions she would have taken. I mean it's obvious that her last album was a transition album so she was definitely going to change her direction from her old R&B stuff; also she was willing to collaborate with some singers producer from different genres and make some kind of fusion with their sound but at the same time she was kinda going pop with songs like rock the boat and more than a woman so we'll never know but one thing that is clear is that she was finally taking the lead of her career and her musical direction and her music was only getting better.
