That's my guess. They were probably mastering for digital. It's a risky move, but it'll play well with her fans. This better not be Samsung only, though, because most people with taste have an iPhone, and will just wind up pirating the crappy Samsung leaks like they did with Hov's last album. They need this out in FLAC if they're going that route.
Tomorrow night could be Samsung/Tidal and Friday a full digital release. It's too bad they can't rush a physical release, because the week after Christmas, retailers see a lot of returns and sales with gift cards.
I wouldn't blame Rihanna. This mess is on Kanye, Roc Nation, and Steve Bartels for making Kanye her musical director/A&R. At Def Jam, she was their number one priority, and Karen Kwak would've paired her with great collaborators from the start.
maybe a re-start single /pre-order at most.
