I loved that ceremony so much but there was one part that felt a little off for someone who cares about social situations so much like Gaga...the part where she says "woman are important to music and have a perspective that men can never understand because women bare life". This part made me think of my aunt who cannot bare kids and how it's made her feel less "womanly" her whole life because society attaches childbirth as the ultimate achievement in a woman's life / the pinnacle of femininity. It's also non inclusive of trans women who cannot bare kids too etc...
What do you think guys? (also plz I only want polite responses as I am really genuinely asking this question in a polite way and want a proper debate etc. plz do not derive from the topic guys and do not be rude.)
edit: thanks for the proper and polite replies and I see how she did not exclude anyone , she literally just mentioned a fact (that most women do give birth and that it does change their perspective on things).
She wasn't trying to put trans people or women unable to give birth down. I do see how someone who is easily offended could be offended, however, but it's a non issue. She was comparing women to men, and how women by birth will always be genetically and anatomically different than anyone born with male genitalia. You grow up with a different perspective on life, and men will never fully be able to understand.
ok I see. so based on the replies it's not that she was non inclusive. like she just stated that most women give birth and consequently it does give them a different perspective. thank you guys for the polite replies!
It's not a totally cringeworthy faux pas, but yeah, she could've been more sensitive, especially considering she's built her brand off of being inclusive.
There is a distinct difference. Trams women will never have to go through aome of the things of a pregnant and child bearing woman. Trans women will also never have to go through some of the constant pressures and expectations some women face to bear children.
That being said, cis women will never go through some things trans women have experienced and that is ok.
I'm not sure why you think she should be so specific. I mean, it's a general statement. Women give birth.
Literally how is she supposed to include the types of women you mentioned? It's unnecessary.
honestly just a simple question. I got simple and proper answers and now see how she did not exclude anyone , she literally just mentioned a fact (that most women do give birth and that it does change their perspective on things). if yall can/want to close this it would be great
