48-35: Good albums but not quite memorable They get a mention but no commentary
36. BADLANDS/Halsey
37. M3LL155X/FKA twigs
38. Grand Romantic/Nate Ruess
39. Love Stuff/Elle King
40. Royal Blood/Royal Blood
41. Love Stuff/Elle King
42. Julia Holter/Have You In My Wilderness
43. CHVRCHES/Every Open Eye
44. Depression Cherry/Beach House
45. Who, Me?/Juan Wauters
46. In Colour/Jamie xx
47. Posion Season/Destroyer
48. No, No, No/Beirut
What I like the most about the few Dawes tracks I've heard is their lyrics, and this is no exception. "Things happen, that's all they ever do." An anthem of resignation.
094. twenty-one pilots-"Stressed Out"
I think these guys are really interesting. Their lyrics remind me of an emo band but you can tell the singer listens to a lot of Eminem. Stressed Out is a gospel of truth.
093. Hoodie Allen feat. Ed Sheeran-"All About It"
Okay this is embarrassing. A guilty pleasure!
092. Miley Cyrus-"BB Talk"
I feel like this track allows us to know Miley's intimate, weird self. The dudes she wrote them for must be hollering
091. Natalia Lafourcade-"Nunca es suficiente"
Latin music is going through its worst decade ever. Decent pop acts are hard to come across. Natalia is a veteran who debuted circa 2003 and is still killing it. Nunca es suficiente sounds like a Spanish ballad from the 80s, a new sound for her. I am so glad she kept this track for herself, since she almost gave it away to the Paulina Rubio.
Annie Clark dragging social media, such an interesting yet catchy song. My 8 year old sister loves it
089. Britney Spears & Iggy Azalea
It got old pretty fast, but Britney is Britney and no matter what she does she holds a special place in pop history.
088. Julia Holter-"Sea Calls Me Home"
Perhaps the most nostalgic song of the year!
087. Lana Del Rey-"I Can Fly"
I haven't seen Big Eyes but I feel like this song does a pretty good job summing up what it's about. Thematically, it is Lana's Pearl, with a happy ending. More Lana to come throughout the top 100!
086. Sia featuring Diplo & The Weeknd-"Elastic Heart"
I like the spin this remix gives to this track. At first I wasn't feeling Sia much (Fire Meets Gasoline is not a particularly good song) but this song just does it for me. Another female emancipation anthem?
This dorky song is quite catchy, but it pales in comparison to other alternative crossover songs this decade (think Pumped Up Kicks, Ho Hey, Safe & Sound, Pompeii, Habits, Royals, Take Me to Church, etc.). Regardless, it made the list.
084. Taylor Swift-“Blank Space”
It made it again this year, 2 positions lower, however. Blank Space is pop candy--but that's all there is to it.
083. Marina & The Diamonds-“Savages”
Marina exploring the human condition over that great instrumental? I'll take it.
082. Lana Del Rey-“Salvatore”
My name is Salvador in real life so I just imagine Lana is singing to me. She's actually singing to her Italian American sugar daddy in Miami
081. Adrien Gallo-“Monokini”
Adrien Gallo's alt pop music as the frontman of band BB Brunes is fantastic, but who knew he had so much potential as a solo artist? This disco track is all you need if you are looking for French bops.
Badlands not making it
BB Talk is pretty good, I only discovered it recently and I love the production but her talking<<<
Blank Space this low
Lana, Sia and Britney
