I would say Delirium was a huge disappointment to me but then I didn't expect anything of quality considering the kind of stuff she has been releasing since Halcyon.
FKA's EP is on my to do list

Let me praise you for Ms. Jackson also You're right, it feels classic Janet, but really fresh without sounding like it's pandering or trend-hopping. No Sleeep is endlessly replayable, BURNITUP! has Missy, and The Great Forever is a classic Jackson song and I love it.
Wow and Adele too, and you naming my 3 favorite songs on the album in your write-up It is a solid album and just has a certain classic feel to it.
I don't know Nightwish, but they're metal right? I like me a good metal album. Let me add to my list

It's symphonic metal I think. I should check them out too.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I agree with the top 3 of 25 being When We Were Young, Million Years Ago & I Miss You.

I haven't heard Ellie's album, but they say it's awful. On my Mind is not bad, but I think her voice is irritating.

I claimed River Lea as my fave song on my first listen and everyone called it the worst track and I was so sad.
|
I didn't mind it at first but it became so overplayed that I hate it now
Yes
I want names and addresses I think I prefer I Miss You now but River Lea is other-worldly good

I know right? Glad it turned out to be so good, before I heard No Sleeep I'd been afraid she would serve Discipline 2.0.

I actually was surprised by how much I liked Delirium, a really cute pop album.
25 doesn't sound as good as on the first listen but I just couldn't not include, some of the songs And same about Unbreakable.

Devotion is definitely the best song on the album, stan Have you listened to her earlier work? If not, I strongly recommend Halcyon (only the standard edition though, the re-release is offensive trash).
Yeah, Nightwish are metal. Symphonic metal, to be more precise. Don't know whether you'll like it or not but I hope you'll do!
Wow @ you agreeing with me so much, your taste is amazing That twigs snub tho, I c u

Actually, I only liked two or three songs on my first listen and was disappointed as well. It quickly grew on me.

It's not awful, it only sold awfully. Her voice though... yeah, it can be really annoying.

Great description of 25! Not groundbreaking but still really good and almost a must listen just cause Adele has really taken over. Also I think I figured out your fave song from the album now
Delirium was extremely meh but I won't lie there are a few tracks I enjoy. That gif tho

The main advantage of 25 (and Adele's music in general) is how honest she is. She can even sing cliches like hello, it's me and you still believe she's true and she's singing straight from her heart, no matter how lame it sounds.
|
see, i wasn't as convinced by 25. i feel like someone like taylor could convincingly sell you an album of lies, but 25 constantly felt like to me it was skirting around what it really wanted to be
totally agree with i miss you though. amazing verses, just wish the chorus was stronger
nice to see unbreakable!

I'm so conflicted.
You put albums I love, like Delirium and 25, but then listed your favorite tracks, which are some of my least favorites.
River Lea & Million Years Ago just drag on for me, but I Miss You is so underrated, and WWWY is amazing.
Aftertaste has a great start continuing from the intro, but the chorus is so meh for me.
This is why we're always so different on music rates!

I actually really like Delirium, I don't know why everyone dragged it so bad. I guess it's just not everyone's taste.
Unbreakable was a nice inclusion too.

Will answer to your comments tomorrow as I have to leave in a minute but thanks for commenting y'all, I appreciate every single post in here
| 40. Miguel - Coffee
I wish I could paint our love
These moments and vibrant hues
I kinda hate myself for putting this so low but it only goes to prove how strong this year has been plus Miguel *hint hint* has his album pretty high on my list, so we'll get through it, I guess. The lead single off Wildheart, Coffee, features our daddy finding the perfect balance between being his wild, party, sexy side and his heart, softer and more sensual one. Quite honestly, I love the lyrics to this one, they're pretty self-explanatory and not very complex, but having them mention coffee, painting, sweet love etc. you can kind of feel the song with all of your senses. Not only you can hear it but also see it, smell it or feel it. It's very, very sweet. Oh, and Miguel's vocals are low-key turning me on, king. |
39. Kari Rueslåtten - To the North
To the North, where the cliffs meet the sea
This is where I'll go
Kari is the kind of artist which doesn't really need to experiment and reinvent herself with every other album 'cause, well, she simply amazes me even with the most basic ballads. And hey, she was on hiatus for nearly 10 years so the two new albums, one in 2014 and one in 2015, are more than enough. But let's focus on the song itself. To the North, serving as a closer to the record of the same name, is a satisfactory and heartfelt ending to the album journey. It finds Rueslåtten at her rawest and possibly most natural, just wishing to go back to her home place (Norway; Scandinavia in general is pretty musically great). The track has a bit of a norwegian, folk feeling actually and it really strikes me for being so other-worldly beautiful.
| 38. Leona Lewis - Fire Under My Feet
Moving onto the bigger things
I began to spread my wings
The tragic drop from SyCo + the commercial failure of the pretty great album Glassheart is another topic for a longer conversation, let's leave it behind. As a Leona supporter I hoped she would finally record an outstanding longplay showcasing what an incredibly talented singer she is. She didn't quite get there, to put it in nice words, but we at least got the powerful anthem Fire Under My Feet. The title is actually all kinds of accurate, the song low-key serves fire. I'm a bit of a sucker for self-empowerment tracks and the uplifting atmosphere of Fire Under My Feet ideally fits that criteria. It features one of the most exciting and catchy choruses in her entire discography, I can't help dancing and singing whenever it comes on. It also managed to make me feel happy numerous times, and that is always a good thing. |
37. Beach House - Sparks
Make it, wave it
Alive
Is that really Beach House I'm listening to or is Spotify somehow messing up...? This was my initial though when I was listening to Depression Cherry for the first time and Sparks came on. I'd honestly never expect any major surprises from them, so here we've got the first advantage of the recording. What's more, it's the best possible surprise they could've given me. The distorted electric guitar sound in the beginning (which appears later in the song as well) left me bald, it's totally dope, amazing and [insert any other positive adjective here]. Adding Victoria, her characteristic voice and the simple, yet effective lyrics, Beach House managed to create such a special climate. Saying it's a magical, addictive feeling doesn't really say much but that's exactly what I think of it.
| 36. Kelela - All the Way Down
Is my head in the way?
'Cause my heart can't explain
I've heard that All the Way Down is a track Tinashe rejected and I want to someone to confirm whether it's true or not. If yes, then ok, let the Player singer record more of that and sleep on actual masterpieces.
And now that I've heard the Kelela's version once, twice, for the 29187th time, I cannot imagine any other artist pulling it off. Even though she's only on her debut, she shows tons of personality both on All the Way Down, and on the EP as a whole. She's sensual, low-key sexy and seductive, the twigs of 2015. The production is amazing as well; I love how you can bop to it in a way, yet it stays rather calm and minimalistic. And despite the strong mid-2010s vibes it gives, I feel it won't get old quickly, when will Rihanna and her timeless classics? |

Coffee is good at first but it gets kinda corny and over the top towards the end. Fire Under My Feet is... cute. She really tried.
As for the actual masterpieces, obvs you know I stan for All the Way Up to Heaven's Gates. Sparks is amazing too and is probably in Beach House their top 5 best songs.
