It can be pretty cute, but I think it depends on the artist. Katy's during TD (maybe sans Firework) are some of my favorite, but only the promo singles had a similar theme, and I'm not even talking about those.
Gaga's ARTPOP covers were a kind of contrast to that - the main three range from good (G.U.Y.) to great (Applause), but the Venus ones were... disturbing.
