This song really proved to me to never judge a book by it's cover because it's an amazing song. Yates serves us some of the best male vocals of this year sans perhaps the Weeknd. The hypnotic chorus really allows you to hear the sexy moan-like vocals that Yates gives us making one of the sexiest male-releases of the year.
163. Iconic (feat. Chance The Rapper & Mike Tyson)
Madonna
While perhaps a weird collaborations; A Legend, A Newcomer Rapper and a Boxer??? By theory you would think this is a mess, and if you did; Then you're completely right. A beautiful mess. The blends of flawless production, Queen-like vocals from Madonna serves for one of the most "iconic" releases of the year. For a song that is completely about feeling yourself and listing off all your accomplishments, thankfully Madonna managed to not come off as pretentious and rather come off as empowering.
When I was first recommended this album, I was like "wtf" at the cover. Don't get me wrong cause I'm sure you are too. But this Grimes protege comes strong with this song. One of the most depressing but beautiful releases of the year. It speaks of yearning for a lover that almost seems unobtainable, but when you obtain it it's not what you expected.
This song comes from one of my favorite producers SOPHIE. The high pitch vocals matched with the always-interesting production by SOPHIE brings us a fresh track that you somehow still feel emotion and love in. One of the most weird feelings I've ever felt musically, because this crazy song still manages to become a beautiful love song while still feeling natural and not forced.
