I personally wouldn't support it (as a member, not as a mod - I wouldn't be able to be banned from threads). I feel like it's something that people could abuse in simply banning people with whom the disagree from their threads, or banning people they happen to dislike. It would create a less productive discussion space, and as marginal as that decrease in productive discussion might be on a site like ATRL, it would still be a loss.

Additionally, I feel that it would strongly contribute toward the growing sentiment that the site's rules and moderation as a whole are too strict. I don't think that's a good feeling or trend, and I wouldn't want to see it continued in such a clear way.

No. I wouldn't want that to happen on a public forum. Maybe for personal blogs only though.

If personal blogs make a return - and I don't really know that they will in the same sense, ie. prolonged random discussion among small groups - then yes, it would be a cute feature so you don't have to tailor your friends/contacts lists to the exact requirements of that blog.

It would be good for fan threads that generally get filled up with disgusting haters that are obsessed with the thread starter's fave and find any dumb excuse to throw poor shade.

It would be bad for hate threads that get filled up with fans showing that the hateful OP is being dumb and wrong and ridiculous.

Case in point: Taylor Swift. Every thread of Hers.

But hate threads and flamebait comments already have a control system via warnings. Why implement additional, more easily abused measures for something that already has consequences in place?
