I hear heterosexual women use this term or even, "you're so gay", as a derogatory joke on men all the time, and yet that also goes unnoticed.

This ref was rumored to be gay for a while. I forget who, but in 2010 some type of insider said on a radio station most people know he's gay. I'm not sure if you know that, but I wanted to clarify it wasn't a random insult. He even calls him by name, which seems to make it clear he knows of him very well at this point.
