Discussion: Should biracial people be allowed to identify as biracial?

So here's the thing, in terms of society nowadays if someone is biracial (with part of them being white) they're virtually always classified as the ethnic minority part. I understand this is due to racism and the whole "one drop rule" and stuff but shouldn't people be allowed to identify as biracial rather than being told they are a specific race?

Also if there are any biracial people on here, what do you identify as?

I'm biracial myself. Why would I just ignore half of my race?

The hell? Plenty of people identify as biracial/mixed. When you do, it just means that you're black and white. (Or whatever race you are).

Mess I don't think I titled the question right tbh

. Like of course I think they should be allowed to, I'm just talking about how it seems like biracial people are always told they are a specific race and society doesn't acknowledge the other part of their heritage.

That's only black people and only in America

Other countries don't have that type of strict racial classification. As for society not acknowledging the other part though, that depends on what you look like

For example Hasley (or whatever her name is) will be "white" to society even though she's "black" according to our laws and "biracial" according to genetics

Yes, and a lot of people I know do. It isn't an issue.

I identify as mixed, but some people see me as just black

You can identify as anything you want.

However, knowing our society if you're white mixed with something else, people tend to identify you as your non white part.
