No, Avril is the definition of safe. Taylor takes risk through Red, 1989 but not Avril like WTH, HTNGU. She has sticked to generic sound for every lead single since GF~

Not saying she should've replicated what the Katys, Keshas and Gagas were doing but Girlfriend, What the Hell and Here's To Never Growing Up was not the lane she should've stayed on to remain relevant. Girlfriend got the pass, since it was still early. But yeah.
Hot remains awesome tho.

Let Taylor take a break for 4 years and see what happens. Avril couldn't release between 2007 and 2011 thanks to RCA. That's when she lost momentum. Taylor has yet to go through a crisis in her career.

what's risk about Under My Skin?
the album was released in 2004, when acting edgy and emo was cool

I'm standing on a bridge
I'm waiting in the dark
I thought that you'd be here by now
There's nothing but the rain
No footsteps on the ground
I'm listening but there's no sound
Isn't anyone trying to find me?
Won't somebody come take me home?
It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand?
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
But I I'm with you
I'm with you
I'm looking for a place
I'm searching for a face
Is anybody here I know
Cause nothing's going right
And everything's a mess
And no one likes to be alone
Oh why is everything so confusing
Maybe I'm just out of my mind
Yeah-he-yaa, yeah-he-yah, yeah-he-yah, yeah-he-yah, yeah!
Take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
But I I'm with you
I'm with you

Long were the nights when
My days once revolved around you
Counting my footsteps
Praying the floor won’t fall through, again
My mother accused me of losing my mind
But I swore I was fine
You paint me a blue sky
And go back and turn it to rain
And I lived in your chess game
But you changed the rules everyday
Wonderin’ which version of you I might get on the phone, tonight
Well I stopped pickin’ up and this song is to let you know why
Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone
Don't you think I was too young
To be messed with
The girl in the dress
Cried the whole way home, I should've known
Well maybe it’s me
And my blind optimism to blame
Or maybe it’s you and your sick need
To give love and take it away
And you'll add my name to your long list of traitors who don't understand
And I'll look back in regret how I ignored when they said
'Run as fast as you can’
Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone
Don't you think I was too young
To be messed with
The girl in the dress
Cried the whole way home
Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong
Don’t you think nineteen’s too young?
To be played by your dark, twisted games
When I loved you so, I should've known
You are an expert at sorry
And keeping the lines blurry
Never impressed by me acing your tests
All the girls that you run dry have tired lifeless eyes
Cause you burned them out
But I took your matches
Before fire could catch me
So don’t look now
I’m shining like fireworks
Over your sad empty town
Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone
Don't you think I was too young
To be messed with
The girl in the dress
Cried the whole way home
I see it all now that you're gone
Don't you think I was too young
To be messed with
The girl in the dress
Wrote you a song, you should’ve known
You should’ve known
Don’t you think I was too young
You should’ve known

True, but that's one song and it's probably a fluke. The rest of her discography is leagues below Taylor's.

Yes, Avril doesn't care about fame, charts or whatsoever as long as she's creating music and share it to her fans. If she stay with RCA and follow their demands, Avril is one of the chart-topper until now, but because she doesn't want to be a puppet of her label, she leave.
