Both of their voices are so similar and Avril is just as good as a songwriter. How come Avril can barely get a song to chart while Taylor goes #1 like its nothing?

Taylor's songs are more mature and more relatable.

I mean, Avril was 28 and singing HTNGU. You wouldn;'t catch Taylor singing something like that.

And I say this as an Avril stan

Selfish and success/money hungry.

Also a copycat. She hears good music, and knows her name can make it big, so she copies other artist's style/sound.

Avril is too humble to be successful these days.

Taylor is a LOT more involved in the songwriting process than Avril is (if you disagree you're delusional), Avril is also a cultural icon of a bygone era and she wasn't able to evolve past it successfully.

Sorry sis but We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together or Shake It Off aren't any more mature than a typical Avril song. Avril has mature music also like Let Me Go and GYWYL as just a couple examples

Taylor is a much better songwriter, and evolves.

Taylor evolves and almost reinvents every single era. Avril couldn't keep up doing that, she still is quality though.

I know. But even so, WANEGBT and SIO are more relatable than Avril's last singles, bar LMG and GYWYL.

Friendliness. Avril is so stand offish and would never interact with her fans like the Lord.

Avril did transform every album. How can you say any 2 albums of her's are alike?

- Mature songs
- A voice that's not annoying
- relatable music
- a wholesome image

Except those songs are calculated moves to expand to a wider audience and move Taylor into pop marketability

Taylor grew into other genres really well which expanded her fanbase. I guess Avril kind of did too by going from punkish pop to straight up pop, but by that time her style and image was stale. Taylor was a lot better at exploiting other genres for her benefit, whereas when Avril tried to do it, it turned into a soupy mess (like Hello Kitty).

Avril devolved after 2004 and by the time the TBDT era was over, she lost like 80% of her original fan base. You're supposed to mature musically as you grow older but she completely backtracked. Taylor does a good job of keeping things fresh without coming across as super dated even though she should probably start stepping it up as well, the "I hate boys" diary songs need to go at this point. It was cute when she was a teenager but now it's kind of much. I'm sure Taylor's smart enough to be aware of this and will probably release something of quality next time around, or at least I'm hoping.

Avril also isn't exactly the most intelligent artist business-wise, she was known for arguing with her labels over single choices that she wanted even though they clearly weren't the best picks, and consequently, they flopped. Avril tried to appeal to a new generation of children when she should've grew up with her original fan base.

Taylor, as calculated as she is, is very smart. Just watch her in any interview, sometimes she sounds like a flat-out business woman instead of a popstar

changing is one thing, transforming while still being able to capture the zeitgeist is completley different ballpark.

Taylor is a MUCH better songwriter. It's not even a competition. Avril's songwriting is mostly embarrassing.
