Karim Benzema will need to clear his name before he plays again for France.
That was the decision the French Football Federation reached on Thursday with its president Noel Le Graet saying: ‘If things do not move on he will not play Euro 2016.
The French international is accused of being an accessory to an attempt to blackmail team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.
In an interview in Le Monde Valbuena has accused Benzema of trying to persuade him to pay a sum of money demanded for the release of a video in which Valbuena appears.
Benzema was first accused of complicity in the blackmail attempt at the start of November. He allegedly acted on behalf of a childhood friend by trying to persuade Valbuena to pay for the release of a so-called ‘sex-tape’.
