News: UK MPs to consider Trump ban

The petition went on Parliament's e-petition website on Tuesday.

It was posted in response to Mr Trump's call for a temporary halt on Muslims entering the United States.

Any petition with more than 100,000 signatures is automatically considered for debate in Parliament.

Mr Trump is seeking the Republican nomination for next year's US presidential election.

"Block Donald J Trump from UK entry" - reads: "The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. The same principles should apply to everyone. "If the UK is to continue applying the 'unacceptable behaviour' criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to rich as well as poor, and weak as well as powerful."

125,000 signatures and counting.

Parliament has less than 24 hours to issue a date for the debate.

If anyone thinks the UK government will even consider this for a second. He's a presidential candidate, what on earth would we do if he won the election?

They will release a copy + paste statement saying they have reviewed the petition etc etc.

Amy Winehouse was banned from the U.S. for less. It's an act of hate speech, and we don't want that **** in our country.

He's a horrible, horrible, horrible person. Probably the closest person to Hitler in the Western world in my life-time except with muslims instead of jews.

However, I don't think he should be banned from the UK. Everybody in the world thinks he's an idiot, it's not like him coming to the UK will change anything.

That said, T.I. and Chris Brown are banned from the UK...

Yeah, the current Government will never ban him, they'll just pretend to discuss it for a bit, but they've already made up their mind.

If the Labour party were in Government they'd probably not ban him either but I know that party would actually consider and genuinely discuss it at least.

They just said on news that there will be no ban.

They actually have to debate this in parliament, 10,000 signatures gets a response from the gov, 100,000 gets a debate. It may not result in a ban but the gov will be aware of the ant-trump feeling in the country which can only be a good thing.

They won't ban him, but it's a great message to his supporters that the rest of the world sees him as a complete joke.

All we'll get is "We may not agree with all his policies, but we do believe in tolerance and fairness. Let us show this by not blacklisting those who have different views from our own."

It's a lot easier to deal with 100,000 angry British signatures than the repercussions of banning the potential future POTUS.

Unfortunately any dream of the British PM taking a stand will be left in Love Actually.
