I can understand the rationale behind nationality and sexuality. Considering being gay has long been considered a fate worse than death until relatively recently and even still there are people "ashamed" of something they cannot control. For nationality, its more showing respect for your home country and the positives it has had on shaping your life.
Any more than the occasional show of support though is over doing it.
Your nationality, skin color, etc. are part of who you are though. I don't understand your logic.
Just because you aren't proud of something doesn't mean you're ashamed of it. You can just accept your nationality, sexuality, race etc. for what it is and be content.

Not really... Either you are proud of something and embrace it or you are ashamed of it. There is no in between.
I'm proud to be black, gay, a bottom, 20, etc.
I can't say the same for being American like we been trained to. And I'm not ashamed of it either. There is an inbetween. It's more that I don't care for it.

My words and actions make up who I am. If people choose to judge me based on my skin color and sexuality, then that's fine... But those attributes don't define me.
I think a better question would be what's wrong with being proud of all the things you and your community has done for you to get you to where you are right now? I'm proud to be black and gay because despite all the people who doubt me due to my skin color and my sexuality, I and many other members of the black/gay community still manage to rise above it and make good for ourselves.
