Still don't understand you. Don't you think it's possible for someone to like something that's more complex and unique than something that's "easily accessible" and "pretty basic"? I'd rather listen to Phosphorescent or Future Islands instead of Luke Bryan or Garth Brooks, does that mean I don't know enough about music genres? I understand there are people who say "I listen to everything but country" and they only listen to TOP 40, but you can't make that assumption about everyone. Many people just really enjoy most genres, but don't enjoy country, and I'm one of them.
ive never stated my opinion is fact and ive always preceded my scenarios with probably so idk where you guys are getting these absolutes from
I am by no means a casual listener of music. In fact, it's what I do all the time. My favorites are pop, but I listen to all types of music and that does not make me boring, I'd like to think. I think those who truly love music don't limit themselves to any genre
I'm from a the South... Country music is an acquired taste. The country music I like is the more bluesy, soulful country. When there's a heavy twang in the instrumentation or the vocal, I can't handle it. Or if there's any reference to a truck, tractor, or fishing, I can't handle it.
That sounds like I'm relying on heavily exaggerated stereotypes, but I'm not. *Points to "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)" and "Big Green Tractor", which were both big country hits...*
I listen to music of all different genres (rap is my least favorite). I even listen to Japanese Rock, French Pop, and other international styles. I love music as a whole. But, not liking a particular genre doesn't make you narrow-minded. I particular small subset of country I absolutely ****ing hate is Bluegrass music... And I'm from Kentucky, but it's one of the worst genres of music I've ever heard in my life. I also can't listen to screamo.
I used to hate country as a tween and loved rap but the complete opposite has happened as i come into adulthood. Country has very rich story-driven narrative.
Country is the thing everyone loves to hate. I don't love all country, but artists like Carrie Underwood, Cam, Hunter Hayes, and even Miranda Lambert are putting out great stuff currently. Legends like Reba, Dolly, and the Dixie Chicks have amazing old songs that I'm sure most people who claim to hate it would at least tolerate.
I've said this a few times, and while it's obviously not meant to be taken literally, it's probably a lot closer to true in my case than with most ppl 💀i listen mainly to heavy metal (thrash/death/sludge/prog metal), pop, r&b, some hip hop (tho i also listen to some rappers who aren't strictly hip hop), opera (mainly Verdi, Mozart, and some earlier bel canto), house/edm, and I'm sure much more that i can't think of at the moment. Just can't get into country, with the exception of the iconic "before he cheats" & some country-pop crossover.
Im not a casual listener, I live and breathe music and I dont have a favorite genre, I have just favorite artists, because there is no such a thing as bad genre at all, just awful "artists" which can be found in every genre imo.
But yeah, Im not from US so I dont know much about country
