Celeb News: T-Pain Claims Kanye West Copied His Music For 808s

During an interview with Billboard, the singer was asked how the sound he used on that project will remain relevant.

“I would say as recent as [Kanye West’s] 808s & Heartbreak, which was a direct copy of Rappa Ternt Sanga,” Pain explained. “I’m not just being a d-ck saying that sh-t sounds a lot like mine. Like literally [Kanye] told me that he listened to Rappa Ternt Sanga and he made 808s & Heartbreak. He even brought me in to make it sound more like Rappa Ternt Sanga. [Laughs.] Something that I did that was directly copied got so many awards — that’s evidence right there. Rappa Ternt Sanga is still relevant because the sound is still prevalent in the whole industry. It’s never gonna stop.”

“None of this wouldn’t be happening without Rappa Ternt Sanga or me as a whole entity, period,” he said. “None of this whole sound of music and it’s not even just rap and R&B — it’s going into pop and techno and dubstep and everything. It’s all kinda came from me. I’m seeing cartoons using Auto-Tune. The crazy thing was if this didn’t come from me, then it would’ve been used a lot more before me. I’ve heard Cher use it, Jennifer Lopez use it then after I did it, the whole world came [onboard]. It’s like all these things happened until I did it.”

This ain’t the first time Teddy P has talked about his influence on Yeezy. Last year, he made headlines when he said Kanye doesn’t use Auto-Tune correctly. “[Kanye] sings without it first and then he puts [Auto-Tune] on after he’s done with the vocals,” he said at the time. “You don’t know how it’s going to come out. You can’t catch your mistakes before they happen. So sometimes it gets a little bit wobbly and things like that…[808s & Heartbreak] was actually good, but I had a lot to do with that album.”

His influence is huge and he really was done wrong, it's like people act like he didn't influence as much as he did.

However for 808s - there are a lot of intricacies to it - sonically, melodically and lyrically that made the album unique.

He was influenced by T-Pain definitely. Don't think it's fair to call it an outright copy. Ideas don't come out of thin air; everyone is influenced by others and their work.

T-Pain made auto-tune cool. So he basically ruined the music industry, but also made it interesting. He inspired many 00's artists.

IA. But there was also a time when Hip-Hop/R&B was literally dead because of it. Every Hip-Hop song between 07-10 had overused the auto tune and it was a tragedy. All the songs sounded nearly identical in production and vocals.

Some examples were from Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Kanye, Jamie Foxx, The Dream, Ron Browz, Drake, etc.

808s did not copy his music. It might have been influence by it in some way, but Kanye's use of autotune actually elevated his songs. It didn't undermine it.
