He should just be honest and say that the vast majority of his fans are females and he's catering to their fantasy of him. It's a reasonable answer. If he really wants to be honest, he can talk about homophobia and say that many people "accept" him as long he doesn't shove his homosexuality in their face, but he'll never say something like that because he's a people pleaser.
I think there's probably a small degree of just being uncomfortable with it. There's status in a man being desired by women and being physical with them. Not the same with being physical with men. He didn't even have any PDA with his ex-boyfriend although there was plenty with his ex-girlfriends when he pretended to be straight.

He always talks about being gay because he's always asked about it in interviews. He talks about general things like coming out, wanting a husband, etc., but you don't see much of it in his image. He's very neutral.
