I've noticed in the past few years, we've become really demanding if we like an artist
Taylor is the latest example. But before her, we got Dear Future Husband top 10 (even with noticeable airplay) before it was a single- same thing with Pound The Alarm. Like I'm Gonna Lose You also went #1 super quickly. And I think we basically forced Katy to make Hummingbird Heartbeat an airplay-only single because of how huge the TG era was
now the rest of the world seems to be doing it too, Bieber's Love Yourself is indicative.
It should be noted that she's also here on tour right now, that makes a big difference. That alone could make it go top 3 instead of top 10.
I preferred AYHTDWS but this one deserved to be a single too
