yes I know how you italians do hunty. my obsession/crush/soon to be boyfriend is an italian immigrant and invited me many times to his house. he always makes his sauces with some form of protein.
however I've also had pasta with shrimp sauce on the side and then like garlic shrimp on the side and breaded shrimp / calamari / lobster as the main thing.
I guess pasta is the most fluid / bisexual food as it can be a main course or a side dish depending on where or who cooks it.

why the **** do y'all think it's weird to eat pasta with chicken or fish. Is chicken and pasta not a thing in your world, is salmon and linguine something you've never eaten. And for the record nobody eats a bowl of pasta as a side dish, it's a putting it on your plate along with fish/chicken/beef/pork/veggies that makes it a side dish
