It refers to a genre of manga and anime wherein pre-pubescent or pubescent male characters are depicted in a suggestive or erotic manner, whether in the obvious role of object of attraction, or the less apparent role of "subject" (the character the reader is designed to associate with), as in where the young male character is paired with a male, usually in a homoerotic manner, or with a female, in which the general community would call straight shota.
I mean, it's basically child p***. I mean, I get no children were abused making it, but I don't think we should be encouraging that ****.
I find all of these Japanese fetishes and comics disturbing so...

It's tricky because on one hand, if no actual children are being sexualized, then that's what's most important...but some could argue that shota is just a gateway to "the real thing". I'm going to go with no unless people want to bring up any research done that suggests the intake of shota increases the chance of someone actually going out and molesting children.
I don't give a **** how pedophiles get off as long as they're not hurting actual children and yes by watching child **** with actual children you are aiding in the abuse of children because those sickos wouldn't be making it if there wasn't a market for it. Stuff like this though, drawings and whatnot, while I think it's ****ing gross, they're not hurting anyone so I wouldn't say it needs to be illegal.
