I never watched the last episode of Rosanne. The saddest TV finale I saw was the last episode of All in Family, with Archie and Edith Bunker. I think Archie (Carroll O'Conner) got another spin-off after AITF ended, but AITF kills off a main character as well, and it was jarring, because the audience is left to wonder whether the death could have been prevented had Archie taken the character's pleas more seriously instead of being worried about his own personal gain. So on the one hand, you felt sorry and sympathetic towards Archie because there's been a death and because of the guilt he probably had, but on the other, you're mad at him because of how he behaved in the moments leading up to the character's death. There's also the thought of how it may be irrational to blame Archie, if the character's death was inevitable. The episode evoked a lot of emotions.
