This, the tracklist is so messy I think this would've been better:

I don't mind self-titles as long as the material is dominantly personal. But, "lead single = #1 on track list" is a big no-no in my book. If the song doesn't sound like an album opener, it shouldn't be. Worst case is when an album track listing is disheveled or lacks flow; it makes me so upset seeing ballads as the second or third song in an album after hearing a dance/faster song before.

This is even worse.

Ballads as second song is a no-no, I agree! Third song or fourth song ballads are acceptable if they pack a bit of a punch. I agree about the no flow thing. I hate if there are too many ballads/slow songs next to each other in a tracklisting, either in a row or alternating. Examples:

Like, bish, I'll be bored by the end of Close Your Eyes.

Also in Taylor's 1989:

It just goes: uptempo, downtempo, uptempo, downtempo, uptempo, etc.... Make it stop!

Lead singles as the first track. Delete it.

I don't like when booklets (especially phsycial) don't have lyrics.

I guess if you have really good pics it can make up for it but in the case of booklets like My Everything, just no.


It's even worse when an artist only includes lyrics for some of the songs or only one edition has the lyrics.

Ciara's Goodies only had lyrics for "Goodies", "1, 2 Step", "Thug Style", and "Next to You" but none of the other songs Like what kind of logic/mess?

Little Mix's Get Weird deluxe edition is the only booklet that has lyrics. The standard one doesn't.

Some of her demos are good though

1. Self-titled albums are risky decisions.

For example, Mariah Carey is an example of a good debut self-titled album. So is Whitney Houston. Because they were bona fide future legends.

Beyoncé is a great example of a breakthrough self-titled album. As is janet. and Britney.

Rihanna and Janet also proved how you can have breakthrough eras without your name (Good Girl Gone Bad, Control)

Then you have the self-titled albums that aren't successful like that. Demi, Ciara, etc.

2. Self-Titling more than once.

Absolute NO NO. Britney Jean, Damita Jo, Ciara and Jackie, etc. It feels uninspired to me. Middle names period are uninspired. Unless it's your stage name (Rihanna).

3. Rehashes

My fave (Mariah) has done rehashes plenty. It's terrible to me. She put a My All on three separate albums at the same point in the album. It's a terrible move artistically. It looks like stagnancy.

4. Too many features between eras

Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj. They spend so much time on other songs and their eras fall flat because people don't get hype for them anymore.

5. Promo singles/revealing songs slowly

This ruins the hype and excitement of hearing an ALBUM for me. I feel like a lead single is all you need to show before an album release.

Those are my pet peeves.

And Jackie is NOT her name, it's her mother's name how does it have anything to do with self-titling?

Ariana has pissed me off with calling her new album Moonlight. Like, her first two album titles sound like they were taken from a letter or something, Yours Truly, My Everything, then just... Moonlight. If she doesn't have a black and white cover I'll be really annoyed too.

Then we'll stick to just saying "titling".

Ciara had a moderate single. Let's not even act like it was a real breakthrough in the public eye.

And Jackie...17,000 first week? Tf you laughing at? Did you even purchase the album? If so, you might wanna purchase another one.

Anyways, I said what I said.

Deluxe versions that are usually just ****** remixes of the lead track.

Stand-alone singles that don't make the album cut cause a) the album changed after the single was released b) the single flopped.

Singles being suddenly changed to being promo singles. Like, just admit that the single flopped and move onto the next one, don't give me that "it's promotional" ********.

Having a song labelled as "featured", when the main artist is really the one being featured; Nicki's "Only" is a key example of this, as she only does 1 verse but is still credited as being the main artist with Chris, Wayne and Drake being featured.

A lack of flow or context with tracklists. It still baffles me that Kill the Lights, with the opening line "Ladies and Gentleman we interrupt our program of dance music", follows immediately after Out From Under. Who allowed this to happen?

I personally love having acoustic versions on deluxe editions and having multiple editions of an album. More tracks!

Interludes I also find putting remixes or live versions as deluxe tracks stupid.

Self-titled albums, it depends on circumstances.
